Newcastle want at least £40m for Allan Saint-Maximin amid reports Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing the forward this summer, but The Athletic suggests that the Magpies do not expect to receive such a bid.
Reports at the weekend claimed Spurs want the Frenchman. Fabio Paratici is a big fan of the 25-year-old as he looks to give Antonio Conte the players to battle on several fronts next season.
Saint-Maximin is an interesting and somewhat divisive player. Without him, Newcastle would have arguably been in huge trouble in the last few years. He was the star who gave supporters hope when everything looked bleak on Tyneside.
But Newcastle are entering a new era. And with that, Saint-Maximin’s record has come under the microscope. Suddenly, his return of 12 goals in 93 games does not look to be good enough.
Of course, it is clear just how much potential he possesses. And that explains why Paratici is interested in bringing him to Tottenham, if he is available.
The Athletic has provided an insight into the sort of figure Newcastle will want. It is suggested that the Magpies are looking for more than £40 million for the forward.
However, Newcastle do not think that such a bid is in the offing. And thus, they expect Saint-Maximin to remain in Eddie Howe’s squad next year.
Newcastle want at least £40m for Saint-Maximin
Tottenham are set to have some big plans for this summer. So it would be interesting to know what they make of the idea of needing to pay more than £40 million for Saint-Maximin.
Clearly, if Conte could get the best out of him, it could be a brilliant piece of business. He is an ‘outrageous‘ talent with room to develop further.
But Tottenham potentially have bigger priorities in the window right now. So it may be a move that they place on the back-burner for a little while while they strengthen in other areas.
